Virtualization |
|
What is Virtualization?Virtualization is relatively new to the mainstream IT market place but is most certainly a much more proven software technology than people realise. Virtualization has been with us for some time really (Several years ) but has only been able to reach our desktops through the increasingly rapid development of the various associated hardware + software technologies. Today?s increasingly more and more powerful x86 computer hardware are essentially an evolution of a system designed to run a single operating system and a single application. This design model leaves most servers vastly underutilised, Most people have equipment in their server room that is what we would descibe as 'a sledgehammer to crack a nut'. Instead of letting this resource go to waste Virtualization lets you run multiple virtual machines on a single physical machine, sharing the various resources of that single computer across multiple environments. Different virtual machines can run any number of different operating systems and multiple applications on the same physical computer. |
